The IPL 2025 suspension happened after a chaotic scene during the Punjab Kings vs Delhi Capitals match in Dharamshala. The game started late because of rain, but things got worse when the stadium lights suddenly went out. Moments later, officials received alerts about a possible air raid threat.
As the news spread, panic set in, and players and staff were informed immediately. Foreign players, especially from Australia, were very worried about safety. The stadium was almost 80% full but was cleared right away. Some fans shouted anti-Pakistan slogans as they left.
In response, the BCCI issued a statement explaining the one-week suspension.
It said, “This decision was made after consultations with franchises, broadcasters, and other key stakeholders. While we have full faith in India’s armed forces, halting the IPL is the right move to ensure the safety of everyone involved. We strongly support the Indian government and the military. We praise the bravery of our armed forces under Operation Sindoor and condemn the recent terror attacks and military actions by Pakistan. This moment calls for national unity and responsibility.”

The IPL suspension comes during a serious escalation between India and Pakistan. On April 22, a terror attack in Pahalgam killed 26 civilians. In response, India launched targeted missile strikes on terror hubs in Pakistan and PoK.
The attacks hit major camps linked to terror groups like Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba. Pakistan then responded by attacking cities like Jammu, Pathankot, and parts of Punjab and Rajasthan.
Indian forces acted quickly and neutralized the threats. In the meantime, states like Punjab and Chandigarh went on high alert. Blackouts and air raid sirens added to the growing tension on the ground.
