The Indian squad will miss Mohammed Siraj for the upcoming T20I tours to Ireland and England. The BCCI confirmed the development on Tuesday, June 9, and stated workload management as the primary reason behind the decision.
Prasidh Krishna, Siraj’s Gujarat Titans teammate, has been named as his replacement in the 15-man squad for both tours.
The announcement came a day after India wrapped up their one-off Test against Afghanistan in New Chandigarh, in which both fast bowlers featured for the national side.
BCCI Cites Workload Management for Siraj’s Rest
The board released an official statement explaining the decision. “Following discussions between the BCCI Medical Team and the Team Management, Siraj has been advised a period of rest as part of his workload management programme,” the statement read. “The decision has been taken as a precautionary measure to ensure adequate recovery ahead of a long international season.”
India have a packed calendar ahead, with assignments lined up against England in both T20Is and ODIs, followed by tours to Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka, and New Zealand. Managing Siraj’s fitness at this stage is a clear priority for the team management.
Siraj had a heavy workload during IPL 2026, while playing all 17 games for the Gujarat Titans and picking up 19 wickets during their run to the final. That busy stretch, combined with the Afghanistan Test, appears to have contributed to the decision to give him a break before the white-ball tours begin.

Prasidh Krishna Gets a Fresh Chance in T20Is
Prasidh returns to the Indian T20I setup after nearly three years. His last appearance in the format came in November 2023 against Australia in Guwahati. In five T20Is so far, he has taken eight wickets, though his economy rate of 11 leaves room for improvement in what is a high-intensity format.
Despite winning the IPL 2025 purple cap, Prasidh was not included in the squad that won the T20 World Cup earlier in 2026. His inclusion here gives him a genuine opportunity to push his case ahead of what is a demanding international season.

In IPL 2026, Prasidh played 12 games for Gujarat Titans, a slightly lighter load compared to Siraj. He is also part of India’s squad for the three-match ODI series against Afghanistan starting June 13, meaning he goes into the Ireland and England tours with some recent match practice behind him.
India’s Schedule for Ireland and England T20Is
India will begin their T20I assignments with two matches in Belfast against Ireland on June 26 and June 28. They then travel to England for five T20Is scheduled between July 1 and July 11, followed by three ODIs.
Shreyas Iyer has been confirmed as the new T20I captain, with teenage sensation Sooryavanshi earning his maiden call-up. The tour of England will be one of the biggest assignments on India’s white-ball calendar this year, and the squad selection reflects both ambition and caution in equal measure.
The full 16-man squad for both T20I tours
