No League, No Ground, No Future’: Odisha FC Owner’s Explosive Statement Breaks the Silence!

Odisha FC has stopped all player and staff contracts starting August 5, 2025, surprising many in Indian football. On the same day Khalid Jamil was named the new head coach of India, the club’s owner Rohan Sharma shared a strong message on social media that showed the big worries facing the Indian Super League (ISL).

Odisha FC has a lot of problems. There is no start date for the league, no place to train, no money from investors, and a bad deal with the league’s leaders.

Because of this, they have decided to use a special clause, putting their future in doubt.

[WHAT’S HAPPENING] “No League, No Ground, No Future”

Sharma’s blunt message cut through the noise like a cleaver through soft flesh. In a long post on ‘X’, he clarified the club was not shutting down entirely, but warned that without progress, Odisha FC was sinking into quicksand.

“We haven’t shut down the club despite the headlines. Key staff are retained, and the women’s team remains operational,” Sharma stated, before firing the first major salvo: “No clarity on when the league will start, no training facilities in Odisha, no path to sponsorship, and no investor confidence with an expiring participation agreement.”

The club had reportedly made five player signings before abruptly halting all footballing activities. Sharma claimed the club had held out hope for clarity from ISL organisers, but the silence had become deafening.

Breaking 🚨

Odisha FC owner Rohan Sharma confirms the club hasn’t shut down, but cites major challenges no clarity on the season, no infrastructure in Odisha, and no scope for sponsorships. Despite 5 signings, operations are on hold until issues are resolved.#allindiafootball… pic.twitter.com/W5ntJ6oOfi

[UPDATE] DSPL Triggers Force Majeure, Players Free to Leave

Before, Odisha FC’s parent company, Delhi Soccer Private Limited (DSPL), officially used a special clause. The club shared in a letter from Ajit Panda, the Head of Finance, that the 2025–26 ISL season is on hold for now because talks between the Football Sports Development Limited (FSDL) and the All India Football Federation (AIFF) are not finished.

The club said the situation was “unexpected” and “completely out of their hands,” stressing that all contracts will be put on hold starting August 5.

“We did not make this choice easily,” the letter said, “but we are doing it for real reasons, to help the club and everyone involved.”

Odisha FC has allowed players to look for chances in other places.  Contracts can be ended by both sides without any trouble, a kind act during a time of uncertainty.

[TRENDING] One Club’s Chaos Mirrors a League’s Collapse

This episode is more than just a story about Odisha FC, it shows the big problems the ISL is facing right now. Fans were happy about Jamil getting the national job, but the league looks like it’s falling apart from within.

Here’s a quick look at what Odisha FC says they are dealing with:

IssueClub’s Statement

IssueClub’s Statement
League StatusIndefinitely suspended
Training GroundsNone available in Odisha
Sponsorship ProspectsDead due to league delay
Investor ConfidenceFading amid expiring agreement
Team StatusMen’s team suspended, women’s team active

As the club gasps for air, the silence from the AIFF and FSDL feels louder than any statement. Without direction, the ISL appears more like a house of cards than a professional league.

Amit Mishra’s Thoughts

As a writer and football journalist and enthusiast: This development is not just a red flag, it’s an emergency flare shot into the Indian football sky. Odisha FC’s brutal transparency is rare, raw, and needed.

The club isn’t just blaming the system; it’s holding up a mirror to it. If the league can’t guarantee dates, grounds, or backing, then clubs have every right to pull the plug.

This is more than just a suspension of contracts, it’s a warning shot for the ISL to wake up before more dominoes fall. The next move must come from the powers above, or Indian football risks watching its top flight fade into irrelevance.
