The rebranded AVC Women’s Volleyball Nations Cup, the AVC Nations Cup 2025, kicked off from June 7 to 14 in Hanoi, Vietnam, where the Indian women’s volleyball team concluded their campaign on a winning note, beating Mongolia by 3-1 in the ninth-tenth place match on Saturday. Despite the constant setbacks during the group stage matches, India’s win over Mongolia has certainly boosted their confidence.

[TRENDING] Match Summary: India vs Mongolia

In the 9th/10th place classification match at the AVC Nations Cup 2025, India faced Mongolia on Saturday and defeated them with a 3-1 score (25-23, 21-25, 25-18, 25-20). Here is the set-by-set summary of the match.

Set 1: India 25–23 Mongolia

India started strong from the very beginning of the set, and they were able to push Mongolia into the losing end at the end of the set. The set was competitive overall, but India’s captain, Anusree Kambrath Poyili’s early dominance and clutch from the outside helped India perform incredibly well under pressure. India won the set by 25-23.

Set 2: India 21–25 Mongolia

In the second set of the match, Mongolia responded aggressively, keeping India on the back foot, ensuring constant pressure. India was unable to respond as Mongolia consistently hit the best shots to level the match; Mongolia won the set by 25-21.

Set 3: India 25–18 Mongolia

Despite bearing a loss in the second set, India came back strong and displayed their amazing fitness and court control ability. The team mainly focuses on tightening the defense system, blending with the attack in coordination. Shalini Saravanan, the outside hitter of India, responded with quick attacks and back-row hits. India won the set by 25-18.

Set 4: India 25–20 Mongolia

Coming into the fourth set 4 of the match, India were pretty confident and continued their momentum. Anagha Radhakrishnan, the middle blocker, dominated with blocks and quick attacks from the middle. India stayed focused and closed the set by a score of 25-20, eventually securing 9th place in the tournament.

[REPORT] India’s Tournament Overview

Despite having an incredible win against Mongolia, India’s campaign at the AVC Nations Cup 2025 was not as impressive as it seemed, as they lost to every team in Pool A, which consisted of strong teams such as Vietnam (hosts), Australia, Chinese Taipei, and Hong Kong.

India started their AVC Nations Cup 2025 campaign on June 8 against Hong Kong in a competitive five-set, but eventually lost by 2-3 (25-22, 25-18, 15-25, 21-25, 16-18). Similarly, on June 9, they faced Australia, where they again faced defeat with 1-3 sets (25-18, 20-25, 19-25, 23-25). India were hopeless going into the next match as they lost two matches out of two.

On June 11, the result against Vietnam was no different than previous matches, as India were dominated by Vietnam to win the match by 3-0 sets (19-25, 7-25, 8-25). Their final match was against Chinese Taipei on June 12, where they again lost the match by 1-3 (16-25, 20-25, 25-22, 17-25), ending the tournament being last place in group A.

Despite back-to-back losses, India won the match against New Zealand after they were regrouped for the classification matches. They won by 3-1 (25-17, 21-25, 25-15, 25-22) against New Zealand, grabbing the opportunity to play for ninth place against Mongolia.

Jyoti Sharma’s View on India’s Campaign

As a volleyball follower, it is sad to see that India did not display their capability in the group stage matches of the AVC Nations Cup 2025, as they showed in the classification matches. India had great potential of winning, but lack of proper management and guidance to the players held them into the tail end of the tournament.

This loss and win at the last moment will certainly boost the morale and confidence of the players and teams for future tournaments.
