Gerald Coetzee Ruled Out of Champions Trophy
The South African pacer was previously ruled out of the SA20, where he was scheduled to play a lead role. Coetzee complained of a hamstring issue, which put him out of the contest for the tournament.
When Anrich Nortje was ruled out due to injury issues, South Africa named Gerald into the squad. But the last-minute news of him not being available both for the Tri-series and the Champions Trophy is a major issue.
Until the end of 2024, Gerald has played 14 ODIs for South Africa and picked up 31 wickets. Coetzee was one of the leading men for South Africa in the 2023 ODI World Cup.
After Gerald was ruled out, Corbin Bosch and Lutho Sipamla are rumored to be the frontrunners to replace him.

As the tri-series in Pakistan is all set to be played before the Champions Trophy, South Africa has named the squad for it. The South African squad for the tri-series consists of some new faces, most of them being uncapped.
Although there are some new faces for the tri-series, the expected squad returns for the Champions Trophy.
Temba Bavuma will lead the side with the experience of Heinrich Klassen, Aiden Markram, Kagiso Rabada, Keshav Maharaj, Tabraiz Shamsi etc. Similarly, there are some young faces, such as Ryan Rickelton, Tony De Zorzi, Tristan Stubbs, etc.
South Africa Tri-Series Schedule
Gerald Coetzee was ruled out of the Champions Trophy, which might be the problem, but the show must go on. Just before the Champions Trophy, South Africa will play a tri-series in Pakistan.
New Zealand and Pakistan will make up the two teams, which will be good practice before the tournament. The first South Africa match in the tri-series will be played on 10th February against New Zealand.
Two days later, they will play against Pakistan in Karachi. The final of the tri-series will take place on 14th February. Following the finals, they will immediately move towards the Champions Trophy fixtures from 21st February.
