Germany vs Denmark at Women’s Euro 2025 ended in a tense 2-1 win for Germany, sealing their spot in the quarter-finals. After falling behind to a Vangsgaard goal, Germany hit back through Nüsken’s penalty and Schüller’s controversial winner.

As reported by The Guardian, over 34,000 fans watched the dramatic clash, which featured VAR drama and questions over refereeing. Germany now tops Group C, while Denmark exits the tournament.

Germany Pull Off Stunning Comeback Against Denmark

Germany vs Denmark in Women’s Euro 2025 turned out to be one of the most dramatic matches of the tournament so far. The German side came from behind to beat Denmark 2-1 and secure their spot in the quarter-finals.

Denmark opened the scoring in the 26th minute through Amalie Vangsgaard. Germany responded with determination, but the first half brought frustration as two of their goals were ruled out—one for offside and another after a VAR check moved a penalty outside the box.

The second half told a different story. In the 56th minute, Sjoeke Nüsken calmly slotted home a penalty to bring Germany level. Just ten minutes later, Lea Schüller took advantage of a Danish defensive error and scored what proved to be the winner. The build-up was controversial, though, as Denmark’s Emma Snerle was down injured during the play. The referee let the game continue.

Germany’s victory over Denmark was a crucial outcome for the Germans, who now lead Group C and comfortably progress to the knockout stages.

[TRENDING] Social Media Reactions

Many referred to the German team’s performance as heartfelt and commended their calmness and commitment on social media.

One user commented, “This game was sooo hot 🥵”.

The Bigger Picture for Germany and Denmark

The Germany vs Denmark match felt more than an ordinary group stage match. It was reassurance for Germany that they can remain composed under pressure and fight their way back even when things aren’t going their way. Determination was more important to this comeback than goals.

Coach Christian Wück admitted the VAR delays were frustrating, but he gave full credit to his players for staying focused and pushing through.

For Denmark, the result will hurt. They started strong and had their moments, but just couldn’t hold on. The way things unfolded, especially with that second German goal while a Danish player was down injured, leaves a bitter taste. This type of incident raises questions about whether player safety should be given more attention and officiating should be more reliable.

Amit Mishra’s Take

As Germany vs Denmark draws to a close, one thing is evident: this game had it all —  a loud stadium crowd, high tension, outstanding goals, and VAR disruption.

With confidence, Germany now moves on to the quarterfinals. They will be among the top contenders to win the trophy if they can keep up this momentum and resolve a few problems. Although Denmark’s journey comes to an end today, supporters are encouraged by their performance against Germany.
