Somporn Chaibangyang re-elected as president

When you do good work and provide the required results, there are good things coming your way, too. Somporn Chaibangyang’s re-election as president of the Thailand Volleyball Association is one such new item.

This will be his 6th term as the president, and Somporn has hardly disappointed anyone. It will be during the 6th tenure that Thailand will be up and about hosting the women’s world championship.

Details About the Presidential Election

The presidential election for the Thailand Volleyball Association took place on 26th March 2025 at the Golden Tulip Sovereign Hotel in Bangkok.

It was one of the prestigious events with the presence of big sporting bodies. There is no doubt that Somporn Chaibangyang was re-elected president unanimously for his 6th term.

There were a total of 47 representatives from 51 member clubs who were eligible to vote. The nomination of Somporn Chaibangyang came from the Royal Thai Navy, and it stood unopposed and selected.

In the media interaction, the president said that he feels humbled and honoured. He also thanked all of the member clubs for supporting him and loving the sport.

“I would like to thank all member clubs for supporting me and their immense contributions to our beloved sport. Actually, I would like to call it a day and hand others the opportunity to continue working hard for the association and for sustainable development of the sport in Thailand.”

He further talked about the FIVB Women’s World Championship.

Chaibangyang also clarified that this will be his last tenure, and he will hand over the role to others in 2029.

Somporn also clarified that everybody needs to work very closely to make the volleyball world championship a major success in Thailand.

Achievement of Thailand Women During Somporn’s Presidency

Somporn Chaibangyang’s re-election as president might be surprising for the recent followers of Thailand volleyball, but Somporn has made a difference.

He was elected president in 2011-2013, 2013-2015, 2015-2017, 2017-2021, and 2021-2025. During his rule as president, Thailand saw a massive rise.

They won the Asian title in 2013 and 2023, both on their home soil. Not only that, the Thailand team also won the country’s first-ever medal in indoor volleyball at the Asian Games 2014.

Thailand’s achievements don’t stop here. They won a silver medal in the 2018 Games in Jakarta and a bronze medal in the 2022 Asian Games in China, all of which shows that the top-level leadership has been brilliant.

Thailand Will Host 2025 FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship

In accordance with the election of Somporn Chaibangyang as the president, the pressure will be high on him. 2025 is the year when Thailand will be up and raring to host the women’s world championship.

The tournament starts on the 22nd of August and runs until the 7th of September, with a total of 32 teams being part of the tournament.

Preliminary pool matches for the tournament will be held across Bangkok, Phuket, Chiang Mai, and Nakhon Ratchasima. As the game moves to the knockout stages, the matches will be hosted at Huamark Indoor Stadium in Bangkok.
