Major League Cricket Season 4 To Be Played From June 18 To July 18, 2026

The fourth edition of Major League Cricket (MLC) will take place from June 18 to July 18, 2026, organisers confirmed. Like last year, the six-team event will feature 34 matches spread across one month.

The decision continues MLC’s strategy of using the June–July slot, a period that avoids clashes with other franchise tournaments and ensures the availability of more international stars.

Governance Questions Remain

Even as the dates were confirmed, questions remain around the relationship between USA Cricket (USAC) and American Cricket Enterprises (ACE), the league’s owners. USAC had previously announced the termination of ACE’s contract, though there has been no public confirmation on whether that decision has been reversed.

The uncertainty has caused concern among players. Corey Anderson, former New Zealand all-rounder and now operational director of the USA Cricketers’ Association, recently expressed that local players want greater clarity.

A Familiar Format

The 2026 edition will follow the same structure as the previous season, with a league stage and playoffs leading into the final in mid-July. The participating franchises are MI New York, Texas Super Kings, Seattle Orcas, San Francisco Unicorns, Los Angeles Knight Riders, and Washington Freedom.

In 2025, MI New York clinched their second title in three years, defeating Washington Freedom in a closely fought final. The franchise will return as defending champions this summer.

From 19 To 34 Matches In Three Years

The competition has grown rapidly since its debut in 2023.

  • 2023: 19 matches in the inaugural season.
  • 2024: Expanded to 25 matches.
  • 2025: Moved to 34 matches, a format that continues into Season 4.

This growth is an indication of increasing fan demand as well as the commercial investment. Significantly, the JuneJuly period prevents overlaps with The Hundred in England. Although the dates of The Hundred in 2026 are not confirmed, it should take place between July 21 and August 16, so MLC will end before the English league starts.

Season 3 Momentum

The third edition in 2025 proved to be a turning point. MI New York claimed their second championship in three seasons, defeating Washington Freedom by five runs in a tense final.

MLC chief executive Johnny Grave said the competition has shown that demand for high-quality cricket in the U.S. is “real and accelerating.”

“MLC is winning new fans, followers and viewers throughout the USA and around the world. We’re delivering on our promise to grow the game across the USA and build relations with new and existing commercial partners,” Grave said.

Who Owns The Teams

The six franchises are backed by a mix of IPL investors and U.S.-based business groups:

  • Los Angeles Knight Riders – owned by the Knight Riders Group (linked to Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL).
  • MI New York – owned by Indiawin Sports (Mumbai Indians’ owners).
  • San Francisco Unicorns – backed by Anand Rajaraman and Venky Harinarayan.
  • Seattle Orcas – supported by GMR Group, Satya Nadella, and S Somasegar.
  • Texas Super Kings – owned by Chennai Super Kings, Anurag Jain, and Ross Perot Jr.
  • Washington Freedom – owned by Sanjay Govil.

The organisers have also confirmed that plans are underway to add two new teams by 2027, with discussions about expanding into Canada.

Heavy Investment In U.S. Cricket

According to MLC, ACE has committed more than USD 150 million towards cricket infrastructure. The target is to build at least ten international-standard venues by 2030.

Currently, matches are primarily staged at Grand Prairie Stadium in Texas and Church Street Park in North Carolina, both of which have undergone major upgrades. New projects are in the pipeline for California, Washington, and Florida.

Why Does The Window Matters?

The June-July window will give MLC the benefit of attracting some of the biggest names in the world of cricket without any significant scheduling issues.

Global leagues like the IPL and PSL are played earlier in the year, while The Hundred and CPL usually begin later.

This slot also benefits U.S. audiences . The summer holiday season enables the organisers to attract bigger crowds, particularly families and school-going youth. Since cricket has not yet reached its maturity stage in America, the availability and time will be very important in terms of increasing the audience.

Challenges Ahead

Despite its development, MLC is facing the following issues that could affect its future growth.

  • Governance Tensions: The fact that ACE had an unsolved contract with the USA Cricket is a significant issue.
  • Player Availability: While the June–July window is favourable, international tours and bilateral series could still impact star participation.
  • Infrastructure Expansion: Building and maintaining world-class venues requires sustained investment.
  • Fan Engagement: Though sales of tickets have increased, it will be essential to transform a one-time visitor into a long-term visitor.

The Road Ahead

The fourth season will once again put to the test the ability of MLC to strike a balance between its aspirations and the reality of challenges of operating in a non-traditional cricket market. The stakes are increasing on the part of players, fans and investors: international players desire to know what to expect, local players desire some security, and the organisers desire to capitalise on the emerging demand.

As investment, growth and international focus all come together, the events of the 2026 season at MLC will be closely watched not just in the U.S., but across the cricketing world.

Amit Mishra’s Take Away

Major League Cricket’s fourth season isn’t just another T20 tournament; it’s a test of whether cricket can truly cement itself in America’s crowded sports market. The June–July window opens doors for international stars, but the bigger story lies in how MLC balances expansion with uncertainty around governance. The league is at an intriguing intersection with new investment, Olympic aspirations and a fan base that is steadily increasing.

Will it scale into a global summer staple like The Hundred or IPL, or struggle with off-field politics? That’s the question Season 4 must answer — and it’s why all eyes will be on the United States come June 2026.
