On August 17, the Wisconsin volleyball team had an opportunity to play with the young talents in the exhibition match against Notre Dame. Held at the UW Field House, Wisconsin vs Notre Dame ended in 3-1, where the coach, Kelly Sheffield, took a chance to mix the lineups to observe how the young players and veteran players collaborate and play under different roles.
Fresh talents like Kristen Simon, Aniya Warren, Madison Quest, and Natalie Wardlow displayed their grit and determination during the entire match.

The Wisconsin volleyball team has once again proved to be one of the well-balanced squads, as they easily dominated Notre Dame by 3-1 in the exhibition match held on August 17 between Wisconsin vs Notre Dame at the UW Field House. Being an exhibition match, the head coach of Wisconsin, Kelly Sheffield, had a chance to experiment with the players with lineups, mixing young players with experienced ones, and observing how the match would go forward.

The Wisconsin volleyball team did not disappoint their coach, as they were able to finish the game within four sets with a tight score of 25-23, 25-23, 23-25, and 25-20. However, one of the major takeaways for Wisconsin was the performance of the players. Their young and fresh players like Kristen Simon and Aniya Warren displayed their incredible performance while Simon recorded 17 digs and three service aces.
Similarly, another player, Warren, contributed with 12 digs, along with the freshman right-side hitter, Madison Quest registered six block assists, while the setter, Addy Horner, finished with 44 assists and three kills.
Another star player, Grace Egan, also shone in the match, as she was able to contribute with 13 kills, displaying the promising future ahead. Meanwhile, the opponent, Notre Dame, also proved to be a tough opponent since they took the game to the fourth set when they made an incredible comeback in the third set by 23-25.
Notre Dame also had 5-2, 7-4, and 20-17 leads in the second set but eventually failed to convert them into a win. Even in the fourth set, there were five ties before the Badgers broke away for a match-clinching 25-20 win.

[REPORT] Looking Ahead for Wisconsin
Following the incredible start in the exhibition match on August 17 between Wisconsin vs Notre Dame, the Wisconsin volleyball team’s future seems to be brighter than ever, as they are looking forward to the match with a similar lineup and squad as they played against Notre Dame.
They will be marching ahead, focusing on the regular season. The Badgers’ head coach seemed to be proud of the performance of the players, as it was the first time they blended the young players with the experienced ones.
The coach, Kelly, said, “All four sets, we were different. I think personnel in sets one and two were the same, but we flipped our middles, and we flipped our outsides. Some teams that you have, when you’re making those types of changes, when you’re just flipping them on the wheel.
There becomes an uneasiness about it. These guys were no problem whatsoever. That’s something I learned from this group today is that we can move the chess pieces around a little bit.”
Meanwhile, the Badgers are preparing to host the Opening Spike Classic at the end of August in Madison. They will be facing tough opponents in Kansas, Creighton, and Texas that are reportedly ranked in the Top 15 nationally.

As a volleyball follower, it was incredible to see the tight match and dominating performance from the Wisconsin volleyball team. With the blend of young players and experienced ones, Wisconsin has proved again that they are one of the best teams on the roster and are coming after everyone to win any presented title.
Meanwhile, the match ended on a disappointing note for Notre Dame as they came up short in every set, losing key momentum every time they were about to close the set with a win. I am looking forward to Wisconsin’s games at the Opening Spike Classic.
